Athens County Public Libraries United is Local 6640 of the Ohio Federation of Teachers, AFT, AFL-CIO. We believe that all workers deserve fair wages and working conditions, as well as a voice in decisions that affect them. We take pride in our work and we want our local libraries to be the best they can be for our patrons. We stand for the freedom to read, and against all forms of censorship.

Athens County Public Libraries recognizes employee union

At Thursday’s emergency board meeting the ACPL board voted to recognize the employee union, with some strings attached.

Athens County Public Libraries Board of Trustees Approves Voluntary Recognition for ACPL United

ATHENS, OH — Today, the Athens County Public Libraries Board of Trustees passed a resolution approving voluntary recognition for Athens County Public Libraries United (ACPLU). The Board's resolution also directs the library to propose an alternate description of which job titles are included in the union's bargaining unit. The library and union will work through the State Employment Relations Board process for reaching an agreement about the bargaining unit.
